Sisters-in-Christ
Traditionally, Hmong church ladies' groups are referred to as Nam Tsev ("mom of the house"). This implies members are married or have children. Bethlehem's Sisters-in-Christ group was established that all Hmong women could join, regardless of marital or family status. From the beginning in 2002, Sisters-in-Christ has remained committed to its mission"to strengthen our relationship with Christ and to share God's Love and Word with others through activities that encourage faith, fellowship and friendship."
Sisters-in-Christ activities have included bi-monthly devotions at members' homes, volunteering at Feed My Starving Children, serving food at a women's shelter and visiting Hmong elders at nursing homes. In the past, they hosted a mother/daughter weekend retreat at Bethlehem's Birch Lake camp. Sisters-in-Christ has sponsored events like bowling and Christmas get togethers. This allows for stronger fellowship among members, but also the ability to develop new relationships with unchurched guests. The group has planned and executed several successful fundraisers such as an egg roll sale and pho luncheon to support the group's many initiatives.
With the Lord's blessing, Sisters-in-Christ will continue to flourish and minister to Hmong women on the East Side of St. Paul. Kia Thao is the president of Sisters-in-Christ .
